5-a-side football training.

Youth Leagues

We are now about to start our second season of 5-a-side leagues, which are played at the Southside Youth Hub and Percy Community Centre in Bath. There are two leagues – an 11-14 league and a 15-19 league. There will be a link on this website to the fixtures, scores and league standings as soon as the new season gets underway. All of the matches are officiated by qualified referees from the sports department at Bath University. The 5-a-side leagues are organised by Gavin Steer, who works part-time at Percy Youth Centre as a youth leader and is a Trustee of Bath City FC Community Sports Foundation and Jenny Williams, Southside Hub.

Presentation of Trophies
The 11-14 and 15-19, 5-a-Side soccer leagues concluded their first season on a high when the final of the 15-19 age group was refereed by Bath City Club Captain, Jim Rollo. The match was played at the Southside Youth Centre and proved to be a great occasion and a well-contested match. The presentation of trophies to the winners and runners-up in each age group will take place on Saturday 29th September, during the half-time break at the Bath City FC v Boreham Wood Blue Square (South) match. The presentation will be made by Councillor Rob Appleyard, who has been a great supporter of the 5-a-side leagues from the onset. Rob will be accompanied by Jo Bellotti, Vanessa Collier and Sam Platt from Curo, who generously sponsor our 5-a-side leagues. Curo provide us with £2500 towards our work with the 11-19 age group, this pays for the officiating of matches, coaching, provision of shirts, hire of venues and transportation. Many thanks to Curo and long may the partnership with them last.

The 5-a-Side Season Ahead
Lets hope the new season is as competitive as the last one. All last season’s games were well-contested and a joy to watch. We are hoping to involve some of the Bath City Players in coaching the teams soon – Mark Preece and Danny Ball have both expressed an interest in coaching those teams keen to improve their game. Curo and Bath City FC Foundation, joint sponsors of the leagues, are now planning to extend the number of teams involved next season and would like more schools to enter. Fixtures start towards the end of October 2012, so if you are between the ages of 11 and 19 and fancy your chances, why don’t you enter, or join one of the existing teams?

Girls and Women’s Teams
We hope to encourage more girls to play football over the coming year and we are keen to start up a womens’ 5-a-side league. Contact us if you are keen to get a team up and running, we have some excellent women coaches ready to help you improve your game. Contact us through the contact links provided on the Contact Us page.

Coaching
If enough interest is shown locally we are also prepared to increase the age range of the leagues to include another league for 20-24 year olds. We also hope that, in time, we will be able to set up a league that caters for players with physical and, or, learning disabilities. We have already secured positive relationships with local support groups, such as Mencap and The Brandon Trust, and we are hoping to work with staff at the Three Ways School in Bath during the Autumn Term.
